How the Pomodoro Technique Works

The Pomodoro Technique was developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. It uses a timer to break work into 25-minute focused intervals (called "pomodoros"), separated by short 5-minute breaks.

After completing 4 pomodoros, you take a longer 15–30 minute break. This rhythm trains your brain to focus deeply and rest deliberately — dramatically improving productivity and reducing mental fatigue.

The 4 Steps

  1. 1Choose a task to work on
  2. 2Set the timer for 25 minutes and focus completely
  3. 3When the bell rings, take a 5-minute break
  4. 4After 4 pomodoros, take a 15–30 minute break
